Gibbs earns Aeropostale / Southland Conference Player of the Week honors

FRISCO – Sophomore Monica Gibbs and Texas-Arlington’s Terra Wallace were named co-Aeropostale/Southland Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Gibbs collected the weekly award for the second time this season.

The Stillwater, Okla., native posted back-to-back doubles last week and led UTSA to a pair of league wins at Sam Houston and against Stephen F. Austin. She averaged 13.5 points and 11 rebounds per game and now leads the league with 12 double-doubles this season.

Gibbs had 10 points and 10 rebounds in 37 minutes of action in the win at Sam Houston State on Thursday. She also had five assists, one steal and one block on the night. In the 59-44 win against the Ladyjacks on Saturday, she scored a game-high 17 points, collected 12 boards and added four assists as UTSA recorded its first-ever season sweep of SFA.

UTSA travels to Houston for the O’Reilly Auto Parts/Southland Conference Tournament this week as the No. 5 seed. The Roadrunners will face No. 4 seed Southeastern Louisiana at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
