FRISCO – Sophomore Karen Scida was named Aeropostale/Southland Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the league’s office announced on Wednesday. Scida is the first Roadrunner to earn the weekly honor since Nathalie Wallin won the award on Feb. 14, 2006.
Scida helped UTSA to a 3-0 mark last weekend with wins against UTEP, New Mexico State and Montana State.
In singles action, she went a perfect 3-0 at the No. 3 position to extend her winning streak to four matches. Scida clinched UTSA’s 4-3 victory at UTEP on Saturday, winning a tough three-set match against Marina Deluca (6-3, 2-6, 6-2). She then breezed past New Mexico State’s Anne Fagegaltier (7-5, 6-2) and Montana State’s Laura Villegas (7-5, 6-3) in straight sets. In doubles action, she paired up with junior Tanya Hasking last weekend to go 3-0 at No. 1 doubles.
UTSA is back in action when it hosts Connecticut on Thursday, March 8, at the UTSA Tennis Center, First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
