FRISCO – Sophomore Robin Fernandes was named Aeropostale/Southland Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the league’s office announced on Wednesday. Fernandes is the first Roadrunner to earn the weekly honor since Jonas Hoglund was selected on April 19, 2005.
Fernandes helped the Roadrunners to two conference wins last weekend against Southeastern Louisiana (4-3) and Nicholls State (6-1).
He went 2-0 at the No. 1 singles position, defeating Matthieu Leboucher from SLU (6-4, 6-2) and Nicholls State’s Vlad-Lucian Popa (7-6, 5-7, 10-5). Fernandes also helped UTSA get the doubles point against Nicholls State by pairing up with Adam Becker for an 8-4 victory against Phenyo Matong and Ricardo Van Bolderick.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, March 3, against No. 75 San Francisco at the UTSA Tennis Center. First serve is scheduled for noon.
