– The UTSA women’s tennis team won its third consecutive 4-3 match on Sunday against Montana State and completed a perfect weekend of action in El Paso and Las Cruces, N.M. The Roadrunners extended their winning streak to four matches and improved to 5-2, while the Bobcats dropped to 1-10 on the year.

After Montana State took the early 1-0 lead by winning the doubles points, UTSA rallied to win four of the six single matches for the hard-fought victory.

Sophomore Sandra Kukla defeated Ali Griffin at the No. 2 position, 6-2, 6-4, to tie the match at one. The Roadrunners then took a 3-1 edge, when sophomore Karen Scida and junior Tanya Hasking won their matches in straight sets at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. The Bobcats knotted the match at three after winning the No. 5 and 6 matches.

The match came down to the No. 1 slot with sophomore Nathalie Wallin winning a tough three-set match against Nuria Hernandez. Wallin won the first set, 7-5, but dropped the second, 6-3. The Stockholm, Sweden, native clinched the match for the Roadrunners when she won the third and final set, 7-5.

UTSA takes the next week off before returning to action on Thursday, March 8, when it welcomes Connecticut to the UTSA Tennis Center.
