SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA men’s tennis team completed a perfect weekend of Southland Conference play with a 6-1 victory against Nicholls State on Sunday morning at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners, who now have won four matches in a row, improved to 6-4 on the season and 2-0 in league play.
UTSA dropped the first match at the No. 1 doubles position but rebounded with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the early 1-0 lead.
The Roadrunners then won five of the six singles matches to clinch the convincing victory. UTSA pushed its lead to 3-0 when sophomore Andre Moreira and senior Adam Becker came off the court with victories at the No. 4 and No. 6 slots. Freshman Rodrigo Morgado clinched the match for UTSA with a three-set win (4-6, 6-1, 6-1) against Eric Fisher. Senior Nate Avila collected a straight-set win at the No. 5 spot, while freshman Nenad Maric fell in straight sets at No. 3.
UTSA returns to action on Friday, March 2, when it hosts San Francisco. First serve is scheduled for noon at the UTSA Tennis Center.
