SAN ANTONIO – UTSA freshman Simon Merry capped off his collegiate debut with a third-place finish at the UTSA Intercollegiate on Tuesday afternoon. Merry shot a final round 74 at Oak Hills Country Club and carded a final score of 214.
The UTSA “A” team stormed to a third-place finish on the final day, shooting a 293. Senior Matt Johnston, who finished tied for fifth at 218, fired a final round 72. Junior Thomas Kearny finished tied for 16th place with a 223 (76-73-74), while sophomore Kyle Collins ended the tournament tied for 35th (76-74-76=226). Senior Kitt Thabungkan (78-77-72=227) and junior Nick Olivarri (82-75-75=232) finished in 37th and 57th place, respectively.
UTSA's “B” squad struggled on the final day, shooting a 305 to finish in eighth place. Junior Phillip Krohn carded a 78 and ended the tournament at 227 for 37th place. Freshman Emiliano Martinez shot a total round 229 (78-76-75) for 45th place and junior Sean Burch closed out the tournament tied for 49th place (75-77-78=230). Also in action was freshman Phillip Hui, who shot 238 (80-78-80) to finish 70th.
The Roadrunners are back in action on March 12-13 when they travel to Springfield, La., for the Carter Plantation Invitational.
