LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The UTSA men’s tennis team defeated Northern Arizona, 5-2, on Saturday morning at New Mexico State Tennis Center. The win improved UTSA to 3-4 on the season, while NAU remained winless at 0-5.
In doubles action, sophomore Robin Fernandes and junior Adam Becker won at the No.1 position, 9-7, against Bradley Bristow and Ryan Frasier. The Lumberjacks rebounded with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take an early 1-0 lead.
Freshman Rodrigo Morgado got UTSA on the board with a straight-set win against Michael Platzer. The Roadrunners then took a commanding 3-1 lead as Fernandes and Becker won their matches at the No. 1 and No. 5 slots, respectively. Sophomore Andre Moreira gave UTSA the victory at No. 3 singles with a three-set win against Jeffrey Morys. Also in action was senior Nate Avila, who won his match at the No. 5 singles (4-6, 6-3, 6-4).
UTSA concludes its three-match road trip on Sunday against Northern Colorado. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. (CT).
