LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The UTSA men’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker at New Mexico State on Friday morning at the New Mexico State Tennis Center.

The loss dropped UTSA to 2-4 on the season, while NMSU evens its season record to 2-2 overall.

In doubles action, sophomore Robin Fernandes and junior Adam Becker won a tough match at the No.1 doubles position, 9-8, against Stjepan Beg and Roman Stoisavljevic. However, the Aggies bounced back with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take an early 1-0 lead.

Becker got UTSA on the board with a straight-set win against Jeffrey Pfeifer in singles action to tie the match at one. New Mexico State took a 3-1 advantage with victories at the No. 1 and 4 spots. Freshman Nenad Maric and senior Nate Avila also were in action and picked up victories at the No. 3 and 5 positions. Beg dropped the first set to freshman Rodrigo Morgado, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, but he rebounded to win the next two sets and clinch the match for the Aggies.

UTSA returns to the court on Saturday against Northern Arizona. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. (CT).
