SAN ANTONIO – The UTSA women’s track & field team hits the road weekend when it travels to Houston for the Southland Conference Championships. The two-day meet begins on Friday morning at Bill Yeoman Field House.
Two Roadrunners currently top the league standings – junior Brittany Epps in the long jump (18-7 ¼/5.67m) and junior Ashley Allen in the pentathlon (3,500 points). UTSA also has athletes that rank among the top five in three other events (mile, 60-meter hurdles and 1,600-meter relay).
Sophomore Ashley Jackson (1,600m relay), senior Hope Jimenez (800 meters, distance medley relay), senior Lynsey Sidney (1,600-meter relay), senior Veronica Silva (mile, distance medley relay) and senior Diane Smith (800 meters, 1,600-meter and distance medley relays) return after scoring points at last year’s meet.
All-American Ryanne Dupree led UTSA to a fifth-place showing a year ago, scoring an individual meet-high 28.5 of the Roadrunners’ 81 points. Stephen F. Austin won the closest team race in SLC history, just edging second-place SamHoustonState, 105.33-104, while TexasState finished third with 102.33 points.
