SAN ANTONIO
– The UTSA men’s tennis team earned a split on Saturday, defeating Prairie View A&M, 5-0, for its first win of the season before falling at No. 20 Texas A&M, 6-0. The Roadrunners are now 1-2 on the year.

In their first match of the day, UTSA won the doubles point by winning two of the three matches at Prairie View A&M. Freshman Rodrigo Morgado, making his collegiate debut, won in straight sets at the No. 1 slot. Sophomore Robin Fernandes cruised past Chiridza (6-3, 6-4) at the No. 3 position, while junior Adam Becker and senior Nate Avila won their matches at the No. 4 and No. 5 slots, repectively, to clinch the match victory.

Against Texas A&M, the Roadrunners dropped the doubles point. Becker then lost at the No. 4 singles position to Bryan Wooten, while Matt Bain handed freshman Nenad Maric a 6-1, 6-2 defeat at the No. 2 slot. The Aggies clinched the match with a win at the No. 5 position, as Stephen Shields defeated Avila in straight sets.

UTSA returns to action next weekend when it opens its home schedule with a doubleheader against Laredo Community College (10 a.m.) and St. Edward’s (3 p.m.).
