HOUSTON – The UTSA men’s tennis team opened the 2007 season with five singles and a pair of doubles matches on Friday at the Rice Invitational.
In singles action, junior Adam Becker was dealt a 6-4, 6-1 loss by Denver’s Ben Althaus, while sophomore Andre Moreira fell in his singles match to Conor Pollock of Texas A&M (6-1, 6-2). Sophomore Robin Fernandes dropped a three-set match against Clemson’s Rok Bizjak by scores of 2-6, 6-4 and 6-3. Senior Nate Avila and freshman Nenad Maric were in action but lost in the first round.
In doubles action, Avila and Fernandes dropped their match to Denver’s Timo Kienle and Kalle Rosen, 8-4, while Domgoj Anic and Strate Krestski of Southern Mississippi handed Becker and Maric an 8-5 loss.
UTSA kicks off its dual-match season at Rice at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
