Roadrunners Q&A with Lynsey Freeman

Lynsey Freeman

Freshman Lynsey Freeman has been put into the spotlight early in her collegiate career. The Las Vegas, Nev., native made her debut in the starting lineup at UTEP on Nov. 17 and responded with 10 points and four rebounds in 38 minutes of action. Since then, Freeman has started every game and is averaging 7.9 points per contest and connected on 23 3-pointers, second most on the team. Freeman had her coming out party at the Wells Fargo New Year’s Classic, where she set career highs in points (17) and 3-pointers (5) en route to earning All-Classic honors. Freeman sat down with go.UTSA.com to talk about her early success and visit to her hometown last month.

Describe the feeling of making your first start and being able to remain in the starting lineup?
“I never expected myself to start as a freshman, but it was an honor to be in the lineup early on in the season and to be able to contribute was even better. As a freshman this made me a more confident player, especially when you are new and no one excepted you have this great start. At first, it was hard to know my role on this team, but once I understood my role, it made me a better player and I know the coaches can count on me.”

How fun was it to return home and play in front of your family and friends?
“It was a lot of fun to go back and see all of my friends and family members. I haven’t seen them since I moved to San Antonio. It was great to play in front of them like I use to do when I was in high school. I was able to see a lot my friends while I was there, which made the trip extra special for me and my sister (Ashley).”

How did you feel when your parents decided move to San Antonio?
“My sister and I were excited about our parents moving to San Antonio. I feel more comfortable playing in front of them. They wanted to be here and see every game we play. I’m glad they moved down, because it has made it easier to adjust to a new place.”
