UTSA selects 2007 team captains

SAN ANTONIO - Seniors Ryanne Dupree (San Antonio/East Central HS) and Hope Jimenez (Lamesa/South Plains College) and junior Ashley Allen (Buffalo Gap/Jim Ned HS) have been selected team captains for the UTSA women’s track and field program for the 2007 season, head coach James Blackwood announced Wednesday.

Dupree, a three-time All-American and two-time Southland Conference (SLC) Athlete of the Year, has one outdoor season of eligibility remaining. She finished fourth in the pentathlon at the 2006 NCAA Indoor Championships, scoring 4,193 points to break her own school record. Dupree has captured six individual or relay conference crowns and holds four school records.

Jimenez earned all-conference honors with an eighth-place finish at the SLC Cross Country Championships in October and picked up SLC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week accolades after finishing as the top collegian at the Ricardo Romo/UTSA Classic in September. In her first track season with the Roadrunners, Jimenez posted top-six finishes in middle distance races at both conference track meets last spring.

Allen finished third in the heptathlon at the SLC Outdoor Championships in May, her second top-three league finish in two seasons. She garnered USATF All-America accolades in 2005 with a fourth-place showing in the heptathlon and is the two-time defending UTSA Relays heptathlon champion and meet record-holder.

The indoor campaign kicks off with the annual Blue-Orange Intrasquad Scrimmage on Saturday, Jan. 13 at the UTSA Track & Field Complex.
