UTSA seniors go out as winners

SAN ANTONIO - Playing in their final regular season home match, UTSA's quintet of seniors - Meagan Daniel, Brittany Hildebrand, Erin McMillan, Connie Picard and DeeDee Strickland - went out as winners on Saturday at the Convocation Center. The Roadrunners defeated Texas-Arlington in four games (26-30, 30-24, 30-18, 30-25) and will enter next week's Southland Conference Tournament riding a four-match winning streak.

UTSA improved to 19-12 overall and 11-5 in SLC play, while the Mavericks finished the regular season at 23-9 and 12-4. The Roadrunners won their eighth home match in a row and improved to 10-2 at the Convocation Center this season. It is the third straight year the Roadrunners have recorded 10 home victories.

After dropping the first game, 30-26, UTSA took control of the match and blew past the Mavericks with 30-24, 30-18 and 30-25 victories in the following three frames.

Hildebrand paced the Roadrunners offense by hitting a match-best .462 on the strength of 20 kills. Daniel added a team-high 22 winners and moved into second place on the school's all-time list (1,791). Picard and sophomore Victoria Prior chipped in with 18 and 16 kills, respectively. Strickland helped the offense hit .244 with a match-best 58 assists.

On defense, McMillan recorded a match-high 34 digs, her fourth consecutive 30-dig performance and 10th of the season, while Daniel tied her career high with 27. At the net, UTSA recorded 11 blocks and Picard had a match-best eight, a mark that included a pair of solos and six assists.

The Roadrunners are back in action on Friday, Nov. 17, when they open play in the SLC Tournament. UTSA will host the annual postseason event for the third time in school history. Check back with goUTSA.com on Monday to see the complete tournament bracket.
