SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA women’s soccer team scored two goals in the second half en route to a thrilling 2-1 win against McNeese State on Sunday afternoon at the UTSA Recreational Sports Complex.

The Roadrunners improved to 7-8-2 overall and 4-1-2 in the Southland Conference to keep pace with Southeastern Louisiana for first place in the Southland Conference standings. The Cowgirls dropped to 7-6-1 and 3-4 in league play.

“Getting scored on early has been our Achilles heel all season, but give our girls credit for coming back." head coach Steve Ballard said. "McNeese played well enough to win.”

Freshman Kylee Hix netted her second goal of the season, while freshman Holli McGue collected her fourth goal and first game-winner of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Rachel Francis was credited with three saves, while McNeese State’s Labrie Pritzen made five saves.

McNeese State’s Ja’Nae Powell scored the first goal of the match by converting on Cynthia Torres’s assist 17 seconds into the match.

In the second half, Hix evened the match with a goal from 30 yards out that sailed over the outstretched arms of Pritzen. McGue’s game-winning came off a corner kick from freshman Chelsea Zimmerman to seal the 2-1 victory.

The Roadrunners finish up regular season play at Sam Houston State on Friday, Oct. 27.
