FORT WORTH – The UTSA men’s tennis team was in action at the ITA Regionals on Saturday.
In men’s action, a trio of Roadrunners picked up first-round wins. Sophomore Robin Fernandes defeated Jacob Dawson (6-1, 6-3), while freshmen Ty Lunn and Nenad Maric won their matches in straight sets. However, Lunn and Maric fell in the second round. Senior Nate Avila and sophomore Andre Moreira lost their first-round match. Fernandes advanced to the round of 32 after defeating UTPA’s Ivan Avila in three sets (3-6, 6-2, 6-3).
In doubles action, junior Adam Becker and Maric picked up a first-round win against Piotr Banas and Arlen Domoney from Louisiana-Lafayette (9-8), while Avila and Lunn were handed a 8-2 loss by Michael Brehler and Teddy Di Blasi from Texas Tech. In second-round action, Becker and Maric lost to Texas A&M’s Mike Beatty and Stephen Shiels (8-6).
