THIBODAUX, La. – Freshmen Chelsea Zimmerman and Veronica Najera paced the UTSA women’s soccer team to a 6-0 win at Nicholls State on Friday night.
Zimmerman and Najera both scored a pair of goals as the Roadrunners improved to 6-8-1 overall and 3-1-1 in league play. Freshman Kari Weiland posted three assists on the night and junior Rachel Francis and freshman Kasi Hebert combined for their third shutout of the season.
Zimmerman gave UTSA an early 2-0 edge with back-to-back goals in the first 15 minutes of the opening half. Freshman Kylee Hix’s first goal of the season gave the Roadrunners a 3-0 cushion heading into the intermission.
In the second half, Najera netted two of UTSA's three goals scored to give the Roadrunners the 6-0 victory.
UTSA held a 27-8 shot advantage in the match, including out-shooting Nicholls State 18-5 in the first half.
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, Oct. 19, at Northwestern State.
