COLUMBIA, S.C. – Sophomores Andre Moreira and Robin Fernandes advanced to the round of 16 at the South Carolina Invitational on Friday afternoon.
Moreira cruised past Renan Sibveria from Samford (7-5, 6-0) to move to the next round of the men’s A-1 singles bracket, while Fernandes rallied in three sets (6-7, 7-6, 7-6) to advance past Hank Grant of Samford in the men’s A-2 singles.
Sophomore Adam Becker and senior Nate Avila also were in singles action. Becker dropped his match in straight sets against UAB’s Kruno Despotovski, while Avila fell to Keith Embree of South Florida (6-4, 6-4).
In doubles play, Fernandes and Moreira paired up for the 8-2 win against Gabriel Mattos and Dimitri Vlaskin of Arkansas, while Avila and Becker won their match, 8-5, against Dragan Bifercic and Parantap Vhaturvedi from South Carolina State.
UTSA is in action all day tomorrow.
