Jimenez named SLC Women?s Cross Country Athlete of the Week

FRISCO – UTSA senior Hope Jimenez was named Southland Conference Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Jimenez was the top collegiate finisher — third overall behind two professional runners — at the Ricardo Romo/UTSA Cross Country Classic last Friday evening at Brooks City Base Golf Course. She covered the 5,000-meter course in 18:59 to lead five Roadrunners in the top 10 finishers. UTSA dominated the team standings, scoring a near-perfect 18 points ahead of St Mary’s (63), Incarnate Word (79), Texas State (83) and three other schools.

It marks the first weekly honor for a UTSA cross country runner this season. Sammy Kosgei of Lamar earned the men’s award.

Jimenez and the Roadrunners return to action this Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Stanford Invitational.
