Wolfe in 17th place, Vese advances to semis

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior decathlete Bryan Wolfe scored 3,603 points and sophomore William Vese (right) advanced to the semifinals of the 110m hurdles during Wednesday's first day of competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Sacramento.

Wolfe ended the afternoon in 17th place overall and posted top 10 finishes in the high jump (1.92m) and 400 meters (49.98). Texas' Trey Hardee leads the competition with 4,311 points. The decathlon's final five events begin at noon (CT) on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Vese finished in sixth place (14.19) in his preliminary heat and earned the final qualifying spot in the evening semifinals. However, the Houston native ran a 14.27 in the semis and did not advance to Friday's final.

UTSA's other athlete at the national meet, sophomore Steven Brown, finished 14th in the long jump (7.46m) and did not advance to the finals.
