Three Roadrunners to compete at NCAA Championships beginning Wednesday

SAN ANTONIO - Three individuals will represent the UTSA men’s track and field program at this year’s NCAA Championships hosted by Sacramento State and the Sacramento Sports Commission. The meet runs Wednesday-Saturday, June 7-10, at the A.G. Spanos Sports Complex. Senior Brian Wolfe (decathlon/12 p.m.) and sophomores William Vese (110m hurdles/6:50 p.m.) and Steven Brown (long jump/9:15 p.m.) will begin competition during the meet’s opening day.

BROWN BREAKS 20-YEAR-OLD LONG JUMP RECORD: Sophomore Steven Brown’s fourth-place finish in the long jump highlighted UTSA’s first day of competition at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday, May 26. Brown leaped a school-record 7.79 meters (25-6 ľ) to break Tomm Wisloff’s 20-year-old record set in 1986 (25-6 ˝). He ranks 11th nationally entering this week’s meet.

VESE ADVANCES IN 110-METER HURDLES: Sophomore William Vese followed his personal best preliminary time of 13.91 with a third-place finish in the 110m hurdles (13.92) on Saturday, May 27 at the NCAA Midwest Regional. Vese’s time is 25th in the national rankings.

WOLFE EARNS AT-LARGE BID IN DECATHLON: Senior decathlete Bryan Wolfe became the third UTSA athlete to advance to this year’s NCAA Championships when he was officially given an at-large berth on Tuesday, May 30. At April’s Texas Relays, Wolfe earned a provisional qualifying mark with a personal-best 7,260 points, which stands 18th nationally.

UTSA POSTS TOP-15 FINISH AT MIDWEST REGIONAL: UTSA posted 17 team points and finished in 14th place in the NCAA Midwest Regional team race. The Roadrunners were led by William Vese’s six-point performance in the 110m hurdles. Steven Brown added five points in the long jump and UTSA’s 1,600m relay scored four points with their fifth-place showing. Junior Larry Brooks (800m) and senior T.R. Sissel (400m hurdles) each tallied one point to round out UTSA’s scoring.
