Roadrunners eliminated by UT-Arlington, 2-1

BEAUMONT - UT-Arlington scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning and held on for a 2-1 victory against UTSA on Friday afternoon at Vincent-Beck Stadium. The Roadrunners, who were eliminated from the Southland Conference Tournament with the loss, ended the season with a 37-22 record, good for the second-most victories in school history.

Reliever Mark Ruffin took the loss (3-4) for UTSA. Ruffin went two innings, allowing two runs on a hit and a walk. Caleb Barton got the starting assignment for the Runners. Barton scattered four hits in 3.2 scoreless innings, while striking out three and walking five.

Marshal Davis had two of UTSA’s four hits on the day and J.R Voyles drove in the team's only run with an RBI groundout in the fifth.

UTSA took the early lead for third consecutive game in the tournament. The Roadrunners loaded the bases with one out in the fifth and Voyles knocked in the run with his grounder to second base.

The Mavericks took the lead for good in the sixth. UTA put men on first and second - via a single and a walk - with two outs and James Smith’s RBI single scored the first run of the frame. David McLeod followed with the game-winning hit.
