Brannon tosses four-hit shutout, UTSA routs Northwestern State, 10-0

BEAUMONT - Blake Brannon tossed his second consecutive complete-game shutout, leading UTSA to a 10-0 victory (seven innings) against Northwestern State in day two of the 2006 SLC Tournament. The Roadrunners snapped their three-game losing streak and improved to 37-21 on the season.

Brannon (left) extended his scoreless innings streak to 29 as he improved to 8-6 on the season. He scattered four hits, struck out three and did not allowa walk en route to his fifth victory in a row.

Offensively, Lee Todesco collected two hits, including his seventh home run of the season, and two RBIs. Mitch Ponza added his first career homer,a two-run shot in the sixth.

For the second straight day, the Roadrunners scored first. They plated a run in the opening frame when J.R Voyles reached base via error, stolesecond and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Michael McKennon brought Voyles homewith a sacrifice fly to give UTSA an early 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, the Runners added three runs on Zach Etheredge's two-RBIdouble and Ryan Saltzgaber run-scoring triple. UTSA increased its lead to 6-0 an inning later on Todesco?s home run and Ponza gave the Runners an8-0 advantage with his first home run as a Roadrunner. UTSA added four runsin the sixth to cap the scoring.

The Roadrunners will play their second elimination game in as many days at 3 p.m. tomorrow against fifth-seeded UT-Arlington.
