Box Score

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning en route to a 12-3 win over the UTSA baseball team Saturday at Bobcat Field, clinching the second seed for the Southland Conference Baseball Tournament next week.

The Bobcats improve to 28-28 overall and 20-10 in the league, while the Roadrunners dropped to 36-19 on the year and 20-10 in the SLC. The 20 wins in conference play are the most victories in UTSA history. The Runners enter this week's SLC Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face host Lamar - the No. 4 seed - on Wednesday, May 24, at 6:30 p.m.

Freshman Michael Rockett (pictured) had three of UTSA’s six hits on the day and one run batted in. Junior Michael McKennon went 1-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.

Luke Cannon led the way for Texas State with a 3-for-5 day, including two home runs and a career high-tying six RBI.

Mike Hart picked up his fourth win of the season to improve to 4-2 overall. He went seven innings, allowed three runs on four hits and struck out six batters.

Senior left-hander Caleb Barton suffered his sixth loss of the season and dropped to 1-6 overall. He went one and two-third innings, allowed six runs on seven hits, collected two strikeouts, but did not give up a walk.

UTSA jumped on Texas State early for the third time in the series with a run in the top of the first inning. McKennon and senior Lee Todesco drew two-out walks and Rockett ripped an RBI-single to left to score McKennon from second.

Texas State responded with six runs in the bottom half of the second. Cannon’s three-run blast over the left field wall capped off the Bobcat frame.

The Bobcats pushed their lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Thomas Field led off with a single to left field then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cassidy Dresch. Kyle Jones’ RBI-single to center field plated Field.

The Roadrunners cut the deficit to 7-3 with two runs in the top of the fifth. Sophomore Phillip Allen walked and sophomore Marshal Davis reached on an error to put men on first and second with one out. McKennon collected his 49th RBI of the season with a rope down the right field line. Todesco’s RBI-single up the middle plated the third UTSA run.

The Bobcats increased their lead to a 9-3 cushion with a two-out rally in the bottom of the seventh inning. Back-to-back RBI-singles by Aaron Garza and Dawid Bednarek brought home a pair of runs. In the eighth, Cannon hammered a three-run shot over the right field wall to increase the Texas State lead to 12-3.

UTSA returns home for its regular season finale against Dallas Baptist on Monday, May 22. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Roadrunner Field.
