UTSA inks prep teammates for 2006-07 season
SAN ANTONIO - UTSA head women’s basketball coach Rae Rippetoe-Blair announced the signing of Abilene Wylie High teammates Courtney Laing and Regan Burks to National Letters of Intent during the spring signing period. The duo will join the Roadrunners for the 2006-07 season.
Laing and Burks guided Wylie to a 27-6 record and the Class 3A state championship game this past March. They will fill a much-needed void at the post position for the Roadrunners next season.
“Signing Laing and Burks was great for us, because we have added two post players that will make us stronger.” Rippetoe-Blair said. “They both come from a great basketball program that reached state. They will make an immediate impact and contribute in different ways. Both of them compliment each other since they both played together for four years at the high school level.”
Laing, a 6-1 forward, averaged 14.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game for the Bulldogs. She was TABC and TGCA first team all-state and also named to the Class 3A all-state tournament team.
Burks, a 6-0 forward, was named to the all-region tournament team and was academic all-state. She averaged 8.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.6 steals per game her senior year.
