AUSTIN, Texas – The UTSA men’s track and field team posted three more NCAA regional qualifying marks and flirted with a pair of school relay records to highlight day three action at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays on Friday at Myers Stadium.

One day after turning in a pair of NCAA qualifiers, the men punched their ticket to the Midwest Regional on this same track in May in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, while sophomore William Vese improved his season best with a regional mark in the 110m hurdles.

The 4x100m relay team of junior Scott Briscoe and sophomores Steven Brown, Cedric Harris and Vese clocked a 40.18 to finish second in its heat and 12th overall in a tough field that saw 16 quartets meet the regional standard of 40.66. The foursome nearly matched the school record of 40.15 set last year at the regional meet in Norman, Okla. LSU won UTSA’s heat in 39.84, while Texas had the top time of the day (39.55).

The 4x400m relay of Briscoe, seniors T.R. Sissel and David Burnett and junor Larry Brooks also sniffed the school record, passing the baton to a season-best 3:08.22 clocking. UTSA finished second in its heat behind Nebraska (3:07.37) and will advance to Saturday’s final with the sixth fastest time of the day. Houston turned in the top qualifier, a 3:06.84. The Roadrunners knocked more than one second off their previous season best of 3:09.80 and came one step closer to the school record of 3:07.44 set in 2001.

Vese (right) skimmed the hurdles to a wind-aided 14.12, bettering his season best of 14.21 posted on this same track two weeks ago at the Texas Invitational. His time was the 12th fastest of the day.

The women’s 4x100m relay also posted a season-best time of 46.50 for third in their preliminary heat.

Junior transfer Benson Cheserek stamped his name in the school record book in his first 3,000m steeplechase as a Roadrunner. Cheserek finished 10th in the “A” section with a 9:12.81 clocking, moving into fourth place on the all-time list.

Brown and Harris enjoyed a solid afternoon individually, as well. Brown leaped to an eighth-place mark of 23-1 Ľ in the “B” section of the long jump and won his preliminary heat of the 100m in 10.70. Harris took second in his heat with the ninth-fastest qualifier of the day, a 10.52 that advances him to Saturday’s final.

In other action on the women’s side, junior Lyndsey Sidney and senior Demetria Holmes posted times of 14.43 and 14.75 to finish fifth and sixth, respectively, in their preliminary heats.

The Texas Relays conclude on Saturday.
