UTSA men’s tennis cruises past Nicholls State, 4-0, to advance to the SLC semifinals

ARLINGTON, Texas – The No. 4 seed UTSA men’s tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the 2006 Southland Conference Tournament with a 4-0 defeat over fifth seed Nicholls State at the UTA Tennis Center.

Due to inclement weather in Arlington, the match started with singles action first and if needed doubles would be played.

The Roadrunners began their match with wins at the Nos,. 2, 3, 4 and 6 singles. Adam Becker gave UTSA the 1-0 lead with a 6-3 and 6-0 win over Denis Borisevich of Nicholls State at the No. 3 slot. The Roadrunners picked up the second point when No. 4 Robin Fernandes cruised past Alex Silav of Nicholls with a 6-2 and 6-4 win. Meanwhile, one of the points for UTSA came via a forfeit by the Colonels at the No. 6 singles, which gave them a 3-0 advantage. At the No. 2 position Anthony Portois (right) clinched the match for the Runners with a 6-3, 6-3, defeat of Vlad-Lucian Popa.

UTSA returns to the courts Saturday, April 29 against top seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the UTA Tennis Center, time to be determine.
