Aggies defeat Roadrunners, 9-3, in non-conference baseball action

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The UTSA baseball team dropped a 9-3 decision to the Texas A&M Aggies Tuesday evening at Olsen Field in non-conference baseball action.

The Roadrunners dipped their record to 26-14, while the Aggies improved to 21-22 overall.

Senior Lee Todesco, sophomore Marshal Davis and junior Michael McKennon paced UTSA with two hits on the night. McKennon drove in two of UTSA’s three runs.

UTSA starter Blake Brannon suffered his sixth loss of the season and dropped his record to 3-6. He went four and two-third innings, allowed two runs off six hits, struck out two and walked three batters.

Chance Corgan earned the win and improved to 4-2 on the year. Corgan pitched five innings, gave up one run, scattered five hits, fanned six Roadrunners and walked none. The Aggies collected 13 hits on the night with freshman Kyle Colligan going 3-for-5 with two singles and triple.

UTSA jumped on the board first in the top of the third inning. Junior Brandon Koger led off with a walk and moved to second on a groundout by Davis. With two outs, McKennon drove in Koger with a single to right center.

Texas A&M tied the game in the bottom half of the third. Sophomore Blake Stouffer started the inning with a single over the second baseman. A sacrifice bunt by junior Parker Dalton moved Stouffer to second. Senior Jose Salazar’s sacrifice fly to left field allowed Stouffer to score and make the score 1-1.

Brannon fell into some trouble in the bottom of the fourth inning. After getting the first two outs of the inning, junior Josh Stinson reached base on a single up the middle. The Aggies loaded the bases with back-to-back walks, but Brannon got of the jam forcing Infante to fly out to right fielder McKennon.

TAMU took its first lead of the game, 2-1, in the bottom frame of the fifth. Colligan began the inning with single, then advanced to third off junior Adam Hale’s double to right field. A wild pitch allowed Colligan to score the go-ahead run for the Aggies.

The Aggies increased their lead to 6-1 with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Back-to-back singles by A&M plated two runs. Colligan’s triple down the right field line highlighted the inning for the Aggies.

The Roadrunner trimmed the lead to 6-3 in the top of the seventh inning. Davis and junior J.R.Voyles reached base on back-to-back walks. Consecutive wild pitches moved Davis to third. McKennon collected his second RBI of the game with an infield hit to score Davis. A double by Todesco drove in the third run for the Runners. The Aggies tacked on a run in the bottom of the seventh when Dalton doubled down the left line to score Stinson, who got on base off a walk.

In the eighth inning, Texas A&M upped its lead to 9-3 with two runs scored off two straight doubles.

UTSA returns home for a three-game set against Southland Conference foe Stephen F. Austin on Friday-Sunday, April 28-30, at Roadrunner Field. First pitch in game one is set for 3 p.m. Friday.
