April 25, 2006 Contact: Kyle Stephens (210) 458-4551 Elizondo named second team All-SLC
PLANO, Texas - On the heels of winning the Southland Conference Men’s Golf Tournament last week, UTSA senior John Elizondo has been second team all-conference, the league office announced Tuesday.
Elizondo fired a three-under par 67-71-75—213 on Deerwood Country Club’s 7,108-yard, par-72 layout last Monday-Wednesday to win his first and UTSA’s second-ever SLC individual medalist title. He edged Lamar’s Casey Clendenon, who was named SLC Player of the Year and first team all-conference, by one stroke in helping the Roadrunners finish second in the team standings to the Cardinals.
It marked the third career collegiate win for Elizondo, who also won the 2003 SFA/Crown Colony Classic and the 2005 St. Croix Collegiate Classic. He joins Magnus Dohlvik (1997) as the only Roadrunners to capture the SLC individual medalist crown. Elizondo posted a 73.94 spring scoring average and turned in three top-10 finishes during the 2005-06 campaign.
