Roadrunners look to add NCAA qualifiers Saturday at Texas Twilight

SAN ANTONIO - Armed with nine NCAA qualifying marks, the UTSA track and field teams look for more with a short trip up I-35 to Austin to compete in the Texas Twilight on Saturday, April 22.

The meet gets underway at 2 p.m. at Myers Stadium - the site of the NCAA Midwest Regional in May - with the men's hammer throw and women's javelin throw and continues through the evening. The meet ends at 8:20 p.m. with the running of the men's and women's 4x400-meter relays.

UTSA will compete against teams from Texas, Texas-Pan American, Texas State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Oklahoma. Admission is free.

The men own eight of the qualifying marks, including seven regional standards. Both the 4x100 (39.91) and 4x400-meter (3:08.22) relay teams are in while individually, junior Larry Brooks has qualified in the 800m (1:50.28) for the third time, senior T.R. Sissel is in the 400m hurdles (51.76) for the fourth straight year and senior Marques Mitchell has punched his third consecutive ticket to regionals in the 110m hurdles (14.29).

Additionally, sophomore William Vese has met the 110m hurdles standard (14.12), while junior transfer Benson Cheserek is in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:03.26). Senior Bryan Wolfe is provisionally-qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the decathlon (7,260).

Junior Morgan Moszee totes the lone qualifying mark on the women's side with a 19-8 mark in the long jump, but several athletes, like Lyndsey Sidney in both hurdles and Ashley Allen in the heptathlon, are close to qualifying.
