PLANO, Texas - UTSA freshman Laura Baker has been named to the 2006 All-Southland Conference Second Team for women’s golf, the league office announced Wednesday.
Baker capped off her debut season in style, tying for second place at the SLC Championship last week in Kingwood, Texas. She fired a 73-74-81—228 for 54 holes to finish just one shot behind individual champion and Freshman of the Year Therese Nilsson of Lamar.
For the spring season, Baker posted a team-best 80.0 scoring average and had three top-20 finishes. For the 2005-06 year, she turned in an 80.04 average and finished in the top 20 five times.
Baker was joined on the second team by Hiliary Ziegler of Lamar, Jennifer Crawford of Texas State, Mariana Villarreal of Sam Houston State and Maggie Welch of McNeese State.
Lisa Westman was named Player of the Year and was joined on the first team by Nilsson, Angela Drane of Louisiana-Monroe, Christine Brijalba of Texas State and Sara Larsson of Louisiana-Monroe. Marylou Starr and Chris Wilson of Louisiana-Monroe were named Newcomer and Coach of the Year, respectively.
