Round Two Pairings
KINGWOOD, Texas - Senior John Elizondo fired a five-under par 67, the low round of the day, and the UTSA men’s golf team stands third after 18 holes of the Southland Conference Championship contested Monday at Deerwood Golf Course (par 72 / 7,108 yards).
Elizondo carded a tournament-best six birdies and a three-under 33 on the back nine en route to his season-low round of 67, one shy of his career-best of 66 posted in 2005. He holds a two-shot lead over Zack Reeves of Texas-Arlington and Brian Grossman of Stephen F. Austin, who both turned in 69s.
In the team standings, the Roadrunners recorded a four-over 292 and are in third place, one shot behind Louisiana-Monroe and five back of defending champion Texas-Arlington’s 287. Sam Houston State (294), Southeastern Louisiana (295) and Lamar (296) round out the top six.
Also for UTSA, freshman Kyle Collins and sophomore Nick Olivarri are in the top 20 in the individual standings. Collins turned in a one-over 73 and is tied for 13th, while Olivarri is tied for 18th with a 74. Junior Matt Johnston and sophomore Shane Costelloe both are tied for 36th after registering 78s.
The second round tees off at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
