Roadrunners set for SLC Championship

SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA men's golf team is set to compete in the Southland Conference Championship this Monday-Wednesday, April 17-19, at Deerwood Golf Course (par 72 / 7,108 yards) in Kingwood, Texas.

The field will play 18 holes each day with tee times beginning at 8 a.m.

UTSA enters the tournament with the fourth-best scoring average in the league this spring, a 297.47. For the 2005-06 season, Lamar ranks No. 16 in the country in the latest GolfStat ratings at 289.66, while defending champion Texas-Arlington is fifth this spring (298.00) and second for the year (293.42).

Individually, sophomore transfer Thomas Kearney leads the regulars with a 75.3 stroke average for the spring, while senior John Elizondo and junior Matt Johnston are right behind him at 75.4.

UTSA has never won an SLC title in men's golf, but has finished as the runner-up three times, most recently in 2003. Magnus Dohlvik won the only individual SLC title for the Roadrunners in 1997. UTSA finished seventh with a 912 at last year's championship.
