UTSA Women’s Soccer announces its inaugural 2006 schedule 2006 Soccer Schedule
SAN ANTONIO – UTSA women’s soccer head coach Steve Ballard has announced the 2006 schedule for its inaugural season, highlighted with four 2005 NCAA College Cup Tournament participants in Texas A&M, UTEP, SMU and Southland Conference (SLC) member Northwestern State.
A tough non-conference schedule features three Big 12 schools in Baylor, Texas Tech and Texas A&M (Big 12 regular season and tournament champions). The Roadrunners open their inaugural season at home against Texas Tech on Aug. 25. Coach Ballard’s squad hits the road for a four-game swing beginning on Aug. 27 against NCAA tournament participant Texas A&M, then travels to the UTEP Tournament on Sept. 1-3, where they will face Grambling and host Texas-El Paso (NCAA Participant), and concludes the trip against Conference USA co-regular season champs SMU (NCAA Participant) on Sept. 8. Then Runners return home to host another C-USA member Houston on Sept. 17.
“Our non-conference schedule should prepare us for the tough competition that exists in the Southland Conference,” said head coach Stephen Ballard, “We’re going to have to be quick learners and survivors.”
UTSA begins conference play against Texas State at home on Sept. 23. The Roadrunners travel to Nacogdoches, Texas, on Oct. 1 for a match against SLC regular season champion Stephen F. Austin, then return home for two league home games versus Southeastern Louisiana on Oct. 6 and Central Arkansas on Oct. 8, who also makes its SLC debut. The Runners make their first trip to Louisiana in mid-October with games against Nicholls State and SLC Tournament champion Northwestern State (NCAA Participant). UTSA concludes its conference season on the road against Sam Houston State on Oct. 27.
