KINGWOOD, Texas – UTSA freshman Laura Baker fired a one over par 73 and is tied for first place after 18 holes of the Southland Conference Women’s Golf Championship held Monday at Kingwood Country Club’s Forest Course (par 72 / 6,082).
Baker was steady in her first conference tournament, recording 13 pars en route to her 73. She is tied with Jennifer Crawford of Texas State for first place, three shots ahead the 76 turned in by Lisa Westman.
In the team standings, UTSA is in sixth place after carding a 336 for the first 18. McNeese State leads a packed leaderboard with a 316, followed by Lamar (322), Texas State (323), Louisiana-Monroe (324), Sam Houston State (327), UTSA (336) and Nicholls State (348).
Freshman Jenna Wessels is tied for 17th after registering an 11-over 83, while freshman Allie Jordan is close behind in 23rd with an 85. Sophomore Michelle Kowalick and freshman Neely Hutchins are tied for 34th (95).
Round two gets underway at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
