AUSTIN, Texas - Seniors T.R. Sissel and Bryan Wolfe both met NCAA qualifying standards to highlight day two action for the UTSA track and field teams at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Wolfe (right) turned in a career best and NCAA provisional-qualifying 7,260 points to finish fourth in a tough men’s decathlon field that saw 11 competitors top 6,500 points. The Raymondville native followed up a solid day one of 3,747 points with a 15.00 clocking in the 110-meter hurdles, a 127-3 measure in the discus, a 14-9 clearance in the pole vault, a 188-0 mark in the javelin and a 4:58.93 clocking in the 1,500m.
Wolfe’s point total surpasses senior All-American Brandon Buteaux (7,218) for second place on UTSA’s all-time decathlon list and betters his previous personal best of 7,045 posted last year at this meet.
Trey Hardee of Texas won the decathlon with a collegiate record 8,462 points. Donovan Kilmartin of Texas was second with 7,897, while Edwin Billot of LSU was third (7,468). Freshman Tommy Wolfe, Bryan’s younger brother, finished 14th with 6,373 points.
Sissel turned in his third regional qualifier of the outdoor season in the men’s 400m hurdles, circling in 51.76. His time was the 11th-fastest on the afternoon, just missing the final field of nine.
In the women’s heptathlon, senior Kandace Traywick nearly matched her career best of 4,793 with 4,786 points to finish 16th among collegiate competitors. Sophomore Ashley Allen was 19th with 4,442 points. Competing unattached, senior All-American Ryanne Dupree was second overall with 5,606 points behind Julie Pickler’s 5,734. That mark qualifies her for the U.S. Outdoor Championships in June.
In other Thursday action, the women’s 4x800m relay team finished sixth in 9:04.82, while the men’s foursome was 10th in 7:37.39.
