SAN ANOTONIO – The UTSA softball team jumps out of conference play with a doubleheader against C-USA member Houston Cougars on April 4 at 1 p.m. in Roadrunner Field.
Week In Review The Roadrunners went 0-3 this past weekend against I-35 rival Texas State Bobcats. All three games were decided by two runs or less, including one game going into extra innings. Senior Stacey Gillespie belted two home runs over the weekend.
No Place Like Home UTSA has made Roadrunner Field a tough place to play for opponents. The Roadrunners are 40-7 (.851) at the facility over the past two seasons and 35 of their last 39 home games. This season the Runners are 8-3 at home.
Going, Going, Gone UTSA has led the NCAA in home runs per game in each of the last three seasons. The Roadrunners are off to a great start with 57 in their first 27 contests (2.11 per game). Dating back to the beginning of the 2003 season, UTSA has slugged an amazing 341 home runs in 191 games (1.78 average).
The Opponent Houston Cougars come to San Antonio sporting a 25-14 mark. The Cougars dropped two of three to Conference-USA member Texas-EL Paso over the weekend. Houston has won four of its last six contests, including a sweep of Central Florida on March 25-26.
Last meeting UTSA ended a three-game losing streak to Houston with a 3-0 win on March 4, 2005 at Cougar Field. Ursula Mares pitched a gem for the Roadrunners. She tossed a complete game shutout, recorded nine strike outs, allowed one walk and three hits. Aimee Murray drove in two out of the three runs scored.
