SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Texas Arlington in Southland Conference action at the UTSA Tennis Center in San Antonio.
The Roadrunner dropped to 8-6 on the year and 4-2 in SLC action, while the Mavericks improved to 5-7 overall and 5-1 in league play.
UTSA dropped all three doubles matches. Klara Jagosova and Daniela Novakova of Texas-Arlington defeated Barbara Mooney and Tanya Hasking of UTSA, 8-3 at the No.1 position. At the No. 2 double slot, Karen Scida and Sandra Kukla were up 6-5, but Simri Van Rooyen and Monika Peciulionyte rallied for the 8-6 win.
In singles action, four matches went to three sets. Kukla lost the first set 6-4 to Novakova of UTA, but then won the next to sets to pick up the only singles win for the Roadrunners. Kukla extended her singles record to 11-1 on the season in singles. Barbara Mooney had a tough game against Anete Rozkaine. She won the first set in a close tiebreak (7-6), but lost the next two sets 6-3 and 6-4. Also Ana Paula Soto dropped her match to Marissa Brown of UTA by scores of 7-5, 4-6, and 3-6.
Monika Drabkova played consistent in the first set, 6-4, but lost the match to Monika Peculiuyse of Texas-Arlington scoring a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the other sets. Nathalie Wallin had a tight first set, but fell 7-5 and lost the second set 6-3 to Jagosova of UTA at the No. 1 singles position. Scida lost a tough game, 6-3, 7-5, to Simrivan Rooyen of Texas-Arlington at the No. 3 slot.
The Roadrunners are back in action next weekend in Beaumont, Texas, where they play Lamar in Southland Conference.
