UTSA opens three-game series against Northwestern State at Roadrunner Field

SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA baseball team looks to rebound after dropping two out of three to Lamar last weekend, as they host Southland Conference preseason favorite Northwestern State in a three-game series on March 24-26 at Roadrunner Field.

Last Game: The Roadrunners dropped a 6-4 decision to the Cardinals in extra innings. Matt Lambeth two-run homer clinched the victory for Lamar in Sunday’s game. Junior pitcher Blake Brannon started the game, but left after three and third innings, giving up four runs off six hits. Junior pitcher Caleb Barton came in relief for six and two-thirds innings. He struck out a season-high eight batters, while walking three.

On A Roll: UTSA rolling during the month of March. The Runners have won their last 9-of-11 games, including winning four bigs ones at the Baseball Express Collegiate Classic held March 10-13. UTSA defeated two Big Ten schools, in Iowa and Illinois, Texas A&M and Louisiana-Lafayette. Also, picked up a series sweep over Dallas Baptist on March 2-4.

Almost A No-No: Junior pitcher Josh Ruffin pitched UTSA’s first solo two-hitter in the 3-0 win against LU on March 18. Ruffin tossed his second complete game shutout. The Humble, Texas, native leads the team with 45 innings pitched and complete contests with two. Ruffin is tied with three wins among the starting rotation and leads the team with a 2.40 earn run averaged.
