No. 5 Texas blanks UTSA tennis, 7-0

AUSTIN – The UTSA men’s tennis team dropped a 7-0 match to No. 5 Texas Longhorns Wednesday night at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center in Austin, Texas.

UTSA dips to 5-8 overall, while Texas improves to 9-1 on the year.

UT started off the match winning all three double matches, to the point. Robin Fernandes and Adam Becker dropped a close match to Hubert Chodkiewicz and Roger Gubser of Texas, 8-6 at the No. 2 slot in doubles play.

In singles action, the Longhorns swept the Roadrunners in all six matches. Callum Beale of Texas posted a 6-3 and 6-4 win over Anthony Portois of UTSA at the No. 1 singles position. Gubser and Chodkiewicz scored victories over Andre Moreira and Fernandes at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles position with indicated scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Becker and Joe Olfindo also lost their matches at the No. 4 and No. 5 singles position. Hetori Chaves was the only Roadrunner to win a set. Chaves won the first set 6-2 over Bernhard Deussner of Texas, but lost the second set 2-6 and the tiebreaker 10-4.

UTSA tennis team travels to Lamar for a Southland Conference match up this Saturday, March 25 in Beaumont, Texas.
