SAN ANTONIO - Riding an eight-game winning streak, the UTSA softball team travels to Lake Charles, La., for a three-game Southland Conference series at McNeese State this weekend. The Roadrunners (12-6, 6-0 SLC) and the Cowgirls (8-13, 0-3 SLC) will play a doubleheader at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, followed by a single game on Sunday at noon. Series Record: UTSA leads, 33-17 Week In Review UTSA went 5-0 last week against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Northwestern State. The Roadrunners swept a twinbill from the Islanders, 9-1 and 7-3, at home on March 9 to extend their home win streak to 13 games. UTSA took a three-game set at Northwestern State over the weekend to stay on top of the conference standings at 6-0.
Scouting McNeese State The defending SLC Tournament champion Cowgirls have struggled to an 8-13 overall record and were swept by Texas-Arlington in their only conference series to date. Jana Jones leads the offense with a .316 batting average, while Jessica Denham has 66 strikeouts and a 2.53 earned-run average.
Going, Going, Gone UTSA has led the NCAA in home runs per game in each of the last three seasons. The Roadrunners are off to a great start with 39 in their first 18 contests (2.17 per game). Dating back to the beginning of the 2003 season, UTSA has slugged an amazing 323 home runs in 182 games (1.77 average).
SLC Accolades Four Roadrunners have garnered Aeropostale/SLC Player of the Week accolades this season. Senior Mel Torres and freshman Brittany Cantu earned Hitter of the Week honors on Feb. 14 and March 7, respectively, while sophomore Amanda Nikolenko has garnered Pitcher of the Week accolades twice (Feb. 14 and March 13).
