Women's Tennis drops match to Louisiana-Lafayette, 5-2

LAFAYETTE - The #51st ranked Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s tennis team defeted the UTSA women's tennis team, 5-2, on March 15 at Cajun Courts in Lafayette, La..

The Cajuns jumped out to an early lead winning all three doubles matches for the point. Tammy Day and Chanell Meijer defeated Tanya Hasking and Karen Scida 8-2, at the No. 1. At the No. 2 position, Kimmie Lyles and Clemence Remy were victorious over Ana Paula Soto and Nathalie Wallin 8-1. To complete the doubles sweep, Laura Martelli and Celine VanWeydeveld defeated Monika Drabkova and Megan Harless 8-0, at the No. 3 slot.

After falling at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles, the Cajuns won the No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Meijer defeated Drabkova in straight sets 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 3 slot. Remy knocked off Soto 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 4 position. The freshman Martelli beat Eva Silvester 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 5 slot and Lyles defeated Harless 6-3, 6-2 in the No.6 position.

At the No. 1 singles, Day, who was hampered by a nagging injury, fell to Wallin 6-1, 6-0. Vaweydeveld lost to Scida in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 10-3.

 

The Roadrunners return home for a SLC match up against Texas-Pan American Lady Broncs on March 18 at 10 a.m.
