PLANO, Texas – Sophomore right-hander Amanda Nikolenko was named named the Aeropostale/Southland Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Nikolenko picked up three wins in 19.0 innings of work last week, helping the Roadrunners go 5-0 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Northwestern State. She produced a 1.11 ERA while striking out 23 batters, walking just four and recording a .257 opposing batting average.
In the opening game of a twinbill against the Islanders, the right-hander allowed just one unearned run on seven hits in a 9-1 run-ruling. In game one against Northwestern State, she struck out 11 and allowed just one earned run in a 2-1 victory. Nikolenko won her fifth straight decision with a complete-game gem in a 6-2 win on Sunday, recording nine strikeouts and zero walks. She now is 8-3 in the season and 4-0 with a 1.54 ERA in the SLC.
This marks the second Pitcher of the Week accolade for Nikolenko and the fourth for UTSA as senior Mel Torres and freshman Brittany Cantu have earned hitting honors.
Players of the week voting consists of softball sports information directors and is release by the league office each week.
