Brannon’s stellar outing extends UTSA win streak to seven with 4-2 victory over No. 15 Texas A&M

SAN ANTONIO – Junior Blake Brannon turned in another strong performance for the UTSA pitching staff as the Roadrunners extended their win streak to seven games with a 4-2 win over No. 15 Texas A&M Sunday afternoon at Wolff Stadium.

The Roadrunners improve to 11-7 overall, while the Aggies drop their third straight game and dip to 13-4 on the year.

Brannon pitched eight and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs and two walks and en route to his third win of the season. Senior Noah Tritz came on in relief with two outs in bottom of the ninth to record the final out of game and collect his fourth save.

Senior Lee Todesco led the offense with two hits, while sophomore Zach Etheredge drove in two runs.

Parker Dalton went 2-for-3 for the Aggies. Sophomore Blake Stouffer and Keith Stein Jr. each recorded one RBI apiece. Junior pitcher Austin Creps suffered his second loss of the season. He struck out six in seven innings, giving up four runs on seven hits.

Texas A&M struck first with one run in the top of the first inning. Stouffer led off with a double to right center. With one out, senior John Infante’s grounder scored Stouffer.

The Aggies tagged on another run in the top of the third when Dalton double to right field and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Freshman Anthony Vasquez plated Dalton with a sacrifice fly.

The Roadrunners knotted the game at 2-all in the bottom of the fourth inning. Todesco reached base on a fielder's choice. Freshman James Keithley reached base courtesy of an Aggie error, which allowed Todesco and Keithley to advance to second and third. With two outs, Etheredge’s single plated btoh runners.

UTSA took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the eight. Freshman Michael Rockett started off the inning with a single and sophomore Marshal Davis was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with one out. Junior Michael McKennon was intentionally walked to load the bases. An Aggie error allowed off the bat of Mitch Ponza allowed two runs to score.

UTSA puts win streak on the line against Sun Belt Conference member Louisiana-Lafayette on Monday, March 13, at 3 p.m. at Wolff Stadium.
