SAN ANTONIO - The UTSA softball team steps out of Southland Conference play for a doubleheader against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday, March 9. First pitch in game one is set for 1 p.m. at Roadrunner Field. The Roadrunners are 7-6 overall and riding a three-game winning streak, while the Islanders have struggled to a 4-12 record, snapping a five-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory against Mississippi on March 5. The Roadrunners hit nine home runs and held the Lions to just four runs on 12 hits in improving to 7-6 overall and 3-0 in the league.
Going, Going, Gone: UTSA has led the NCAA in home runs per game in each of the last three seasons. The Roadrunners are off to a great start with 33 in their first 13 contests (2.54 per game). Dating back to the beginning of the 2003 season, UTSA has slugged an amazing 317 home runs in 177 games (1.79 average).
No Place Like Home: UTSA has made Roadrunner Field a tough place to play for opponents. The Roadrunners are 35-4 (.897) at the facility over the past two seasons and have won 11 straight and 30 of their last 31 home games.
SLC Accolades: Three Roadrunners have garnered Aeropostale/SLC Player of the Week accolades this season. Senior Mel Torres and sophomore Amanda Nikolenko swept the hitter and pitcher honors, respectively, on Feb. 14, while freshman Brittany Cantu was named Hitter of the Week on March 7 after batting .667 with three home runs and nine runs batted in last weekend.
