UTSA Junior Larry Brooks broke his own school record in the men’s indoor 800 meters at the Iowa State Last Chance Meet in Ames, Iowa, while seniors Brandon Buteaux and Bryan Wolfe both provisionally-qualified in the heptathlon at the Idaho State Intermountain Championships, in Pocatello, Idaho, Saturday.
Brooks sped to an NCAA provisional-qualifying and school-record time of 1:49.42 to finish fourth in the 800m at Iowa State. The Southland Conference runner-up bettered his own UTSA standard of 1:50.73 set at the 2005 New Balance Invitational in New York City.
Buteaux, the school record-holder in the heptathlon at 5,519 points, scored a season-best and provisional-qualifying 5,437 points to win the Idaho State Intermountain. Wolfe was close behind in second with a personal-best and provisional-qualifying 5,346.
The NCAA Indoor Championships field will be announced Monday evening. The national indoor meet is Friday-Saturday, March 10-11, in Fayetteville, Ark.
