NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The UTSA women’s basketball team (14-11, 9-5 SLC) dropped a 77-68 decision to Stephen F. Austin (17-7, 11-3 SLC) in Southland Conference action Thursday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.

Junior Vivian Ewalefo led UTSA with 18 points and eight rebounds, while senior Nicole Dunson chipped in with 12 points. Seniors Katie Sandefur and Lacy Mingee added 10 points apiece.

Junior Charity Egenti’s 16 points led Stephen F. Austin in scoring, while senior LaToya Mills added 14 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

UTSA jumped on Stephen F. Austin early, 9-6, with 16:24 left in the first half.

SFA took its first lead, 14-13, on a jumper by Jennifer Simpson with 13:46 left in the half. The Runners regained the lead 15-14 on Mingee’s lay-up with 12:57 to go in the frame.

The Roadrunners pushed their lead to 22-18 at the 7:32 mark with a 4-0 run; however, SFA knotted the game at 22-all on a jumper by Anitria Mosley.

The Ladyjacks used a 6-0 run to grab a 33-28 halftime lead over the Roadrunners.

UTSA used an 8-0 run to regain the lead, 36-35, at the 15:52 mark of the second half. Dunson led the way with four points during the run.

The Ladyjacks went on a 12-5 run to retake the lead, 47-43, with 11:30 left in the game. Egenti and Kendria Smith combined for 10 points in that run.

With 6:56 to play, Dunson’s third 3-pointer of the game gave UTSA a 57-56 lead. This would the last time the Runners led in the game.

SFA built its largest lead of the game with a 11-2 run. Simpson capped of the run with a couple of 3-point baskets. UTSA managed to cut the deficit to five with 1:16 remaining on a jumper by Dunson, but SFA connected on free throws down the stretch to seal the victory, 77-68.

UTSA returns home to face Sam Houston State this Saturday, Feb. 25, in the Convocation Center at 4 p.m.
