SAN ANTONIO - Senior John Elizondo fired a nine-over-par 222 to tie for 22nd place and lead the UTSA men’s golf team to an eighth-place finish at the 10th annual UTSA Intercollegiate held Monday-Tuesday at Oak Hills Country Club (6,691 yards / par 71).

UTSA carded a 54-hole total of 301-294-296—891 to finish eighth, nine shots back of Illinois State (882) for fifth. Baylor ran away with the team title behind individual medalist Ryan Baca, who blistered a 14-under 64-67-68—199 for an 11-shot victory. The Bears were just three-over 855 for the tournament, recording a 282 on Tuesday to follow a 290 and 283 on Monday. Louisiana-Monroe was second (868), followed by Lamar (870) and Nebraska (875) in the 17-team field.

Elizondo fired a final-round 73 to follow a 75-74 day on Monday. Sophomore transfer Thomas Kearney and junior Matt Johnston both tied for 33rd with rounds of 76-74-74—224 and 74-73-77—224, respectively. Freshman Kyle Collins carded the top round of the tournament for the Roadrunners, a one-over 72, and finished tied for 50th at 229, while sophomore Nick Olivarri tied for 77th (83-72-82—238).

Playing as individuals, sophomore Shane Costelloe tied for 39th (225), sophomore Sean Burch tied for 58th (232), junior Kitt Thabungkan tied for 62nd (234) and sophomore Philipp Krohn tied for 73rd (237).

The Roadrunners return to the course on Saturday-Sunday, March 4-5, when they travel to Orlando, Fla., to compete in the Orange County Invitational.
