HOUSTON – Senior All-American Ryanne Dupree was the high point scorer at her second straight conference meet, leading the UTSA women’s track and field team to a fifth-place finish at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday at Bill Yeoman Field House.
Dupree (right) scored 28.5 points by winning the pentathlon and finishing second in the high jump and eighth in the long jump on Friday to go along with a runner-up showing in the 60m hurdles on Saturday. She also anchored the 4x400m relay to third.
Stephen F. Austin won the team title with 105.33 points, just ahead of Sam Houston State’s 104. Texas State was third with 102.33. Lamar was fourth with 90, followed by UTSA with 81.
The Roadrunners began the day in second and made an early move in the team race. A third-place finish by junior Natasha Ramos in the shot put (43-11 Ľ) moved UTSA into a tie for first place alongside SFA with 49 points after seven events. The Roadrunners took over first with six points from junior Veronica Silva and senior Rita Lambert in the mile. Silva clocked a 5:08.85 for fifth place with Lambert close behind in seventh in 5:10.78. That showing gave UTSA 55 points compared to SFA’s 52 after eight events.
Dupree followed with an 8.47 clocking in the 60m hurdles for second place and eight more points, allowing UTSA to retain the lead, 63-60, ahead of Sam Houston State. However, the Bearkats would tie the Roadrunners at 66 apiece after the 60m, as Regina Offord took third (7.62) while junior Morgan Moszee was sixth in 7.71.
Juniors Diane Smith and Hope Jimenez finished fifth (2:19.11) and sixth (2:20.89) in the 800m, while Moszee, the long jump champion on Friday, also posted a seventh-place finish in the triple jump with a 37-10 ľ measure to add nine points. However, Sam Houston (96), SFA (92) and Texas State (89.33) all moved past UTSA after the pole vault results came in.
UTSA was shut out on the track until the 4x400m relay. Smith, freshman Ashley Jackson, junior Lyndsey Sidney and Dupree finished third with a 3:48.89 to give UTSA the 81 total points.
