Contact: Carlos Valdez (210) 458-493 Southeastern tennis team gets 5-2 win over UTSA in SLC opener Box Score HAMMOND – The Southeastern Louisiana men’s tennis team opened Southland Conference play with a 5-2 victory over UTSA men's tennis team Friday afternoon at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
The Lions (3-0, 1-0 SLC) won four singles matches and got the doubles point. UTSA fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in Southland Conference play.
Four Lions won in singles play. At No. 1, senior Haris Huremovic pulled out a hard-fought 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 win over UTSA’s Anthony Portois to improve to 3-0. Sophomore Ilie Babincuic also ran his record to 3-0 with a win over Rubin Fernandes, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3. Lion newcomer Vlad Paunic remained unblemished in singles action with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Joe Olfindo at No. 5. At No. 6, Southeastern sophomore Ondrej Krivka improved to 2-0 on the season, coming from a set down to get past Adam Becker, 6-7, 6-1, 6-3.
UTSA’s Andre Moreira (No. 2) and Hetori Chaves (No. 6) earned singles victories for the Roadrunners.
Southeastern took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Huremovic and Krivka pushed their record to 3-0 with a 9-8 (8-5) win over Portois and Chaves at No. 1. At No. 2, Julien Lousao and Matthieu Leboucher clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 win over Moreira and Fernandes. Becker and Olfindo picked up UTSA’s lone doubles win at No. 3.
UTSA tennis team continues conference play Saturday, Feb. 16 when they travel to Lafayette, La., for a SLC match against Nicholls State.
